Standing apart in crafting a natural, unaltered rum free of additives.

Rum has a history of alteration and infusion. We believe the time has come for unaltered rums to be brought into the spotlight.

How It’s Made

Simple ingredients. A century old process.

Grander begins in the sugarcane fields of Herrara, Panama. The proprietary grown sugar cane is hand-harvested and transformed into grade-A molasses. This molasses undergoes fermentation with a proprietary, locally-grown yeast. Distillation occurs using continuous methods with 1922 American Copper and Brass Works copper stills. Once this year’s crop is complete, the still is broken down, cleaned and stored until the next year.

Bourbon barrel aged

The wood used to age rum is critical. We only source ex-bourbon barrels from Kentucky to make the long journey to Panama. These provide the perfect maturing ground for rum to develop its aroma, flavor, color and texture.

Taking no shortcuts

Patience is the key. We employ the oldest traditional method of aging: put the rum in the barrel and let it sit. Panama’s climate provides an intense environment for the rum and barrels to interact. This allows a natural marriage of the rum and the wood to occur resulting in the most wonderfully matured product.

The Art of Blending

Once Grander rum has been aged for a minimum of 8 years, it is ready to be blended. “Blended” can mean many things but to Grander, blended describes the age-old art of marrying various barrels of rum to achieve a precise taste profile. Unlike most rums which are bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV), Grander is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) to bring out the distinct character and complexity that makes our Panama spirit one of a kind.
